Performance
だつおとメグ忍者の共同制作は2012年に始まり、これまで都市における景色の決壊や、標準時を壊す新暦の開発などをテーマに作品を制作してきた。
今回、オープニング・パフォーマンスの会場である能舞台という場から導き出された「土蜘蛛」という演目を題材に新作を作り始めた。源頼光と土蜘蛛という、現代的なものと土着的なものとの邂逅とも読み取れるこの演目は、「戦う」ことで正義と悪というわかりやすい結果に落とし込む。では、現在における頼光、土蜘蛛的なものを、はっきりと善悪にわけられるだろうか。このパフォーマンスでは冒頭で占うチャンス・オペレーションを取り入れ、先手（土蜘蛛）を決定するため、上演が始まるまで両者の振る舞いは宙吊りになっている。
「土蜘蛛」が表す二項対立を思うと、都市から島に入っていくわたしたちは、これまで決壊させてきた都市の景色や時間という存在になってしまうとも言えよう。神津島の自然と人工物との狭間で、絶えず繰り返され、消えていく呼びかけ、そして互いに「戦う」ことは何であるかを島の各所で行う。

Datsuo and Meguninja began their collaborative practice in 2012, and have since created works exploring themes such as the collapse of urban landscapes and the development of a new calendar that dismantles standard time.
For this new work, they take as their subject Tsuchigumo — a noh play drawn from the space of the noh stage itself, the venue for this opening performance. The play, which can be read as an encounter between the modern and the indigenous through the figures of Minamoto no Yorimitsu and Tsuchigumo, resolves their conflict through battle into a clear outcome of good versus evil. But can we so easily divide what is Yorimitsu-like and what is Tsuchigumo-like in the present day into clear moral categories?
This performance incorporates a chance operation at the outset — a divination to determine who goes first (Tsuchigumo) — leaving the behavior of both parties suspended until the performance begins.
Reflecting on the binary opposition embodied by Tsuchigumo, one might say that we, moving from the city onto the island, become the very urban landscapes and temporalities we have been collapsing all along. Across various sites on the island, amidst the interplay of nature and the man-made on Kōzushima, we ask: what does it mean to endlessly call out to one another — calls that repeat and then vanish — and to “do battle”?
